Is Laser Hair Removal for You?

During the initial consultation, we will ask about your medical history, assess your skin type and explain the risks and benefits of laser hair removal. To reduce the risk of complications, we may ask you to refrain from taking medications such as aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or dietary supplements such as niacin and vitamin E. If you have a tan from sun exposure or sunless tanning products, you must wait until the tan fades completely before you can undergo laser hair removal, because a tan increases your risk of side effects such as blistering and discoloration.

What to Expect

The length of the procedure depends on the area of the body involved. Smaller areas can take as little as a few minutes. Larger areas, such as the back, can take several hours. Generally, this procedure only causes a mild discomfort, so we normally don’t need anesthetics. As a protective measure, you will wear goggles during the procedure to ensure that your eyes are not exposed to the laser light. Slight charring of the hair may occur, so you may notice a strong odor of singed hair during the procedure. This is normal. Afterward, you can expect slight redness and some swelling.

Risks

Rarely, temporary complications may include pain, swelling, redness and blisters. Permanent complications may include scarring and skin discoloration.

Costs

Costs are dependant upon your needs and goals.

Insurance

Most health insurance plans do not cover cosmetic procedures. In some instances, if you attempt to secure insurance reimbursement for cosmetic procedures, your insurance company may view it as fraud.
