A facelift is surgery performed under anesthesia, and risks include infection, bleeding, hematoma (collection of blood beneath the skin), and reaction to anesthesia. Temporary numbness in the face and neck is common as nerves recover. Injury to the facial nerve is uncommon but possible and is usually temporary. Incisions are placed at the hairline and around the ear so scars are concealed, and they fade over time but are permanent. Smoking significantly increases the risk of poor healing and skin loss.
