A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that provides a vibrant, youthful look by lifting sagging facial skin and improving lines and creases. It reduces deep wrinkle lines across the forehead and between the eyes, raises sagging eyebrows that have crept over the upper eyelids, and places the eyebrows in a more alert position. When the brow has genuinely descended, no amount of injectable treatment can reach it — repositioning it surgically is what restores an open, rested expression.
Surgery is performed under anesthesia at our Brentwood, TN surgical center. Your surgeon repositions the brow and releases the muscles responsible for deep forehead and frown lines, choosing the technique that suits your anatomy, hairline, and the degree of correction needed.
Performed through small incisions hidden in the hairline, using an endoscope to release and elevate the brow. Because the incisions are short and concealed, it is the approach used for most patients.
At consultation your surgeon evaluates your health, reviews your medical history and skin care regimen, and examines your facial features in detail before recommending an approach. Brow position, hairline height, and how much upper eyelid skin is present all factor into the plan.
It is common for other facial procedures to be performed alongside a brow lift — a facelift, facial lasers, eyelid surgery, or facial fat grafting. Combining them means one anesthesia and one recovery, and often a more harmonious result than treating one area alone.
Botox and Dysport can raise the brow subtly and soften forehead lines, and they are a reasonable starting point. Once the brow has descended and the skin is heavy, injectables can no longer lift it, and surgery gives the lasting correction.
Swelling and bruising around the forehead and eyes are expected in the first week to ten days, and bruising tends to move downward toward the eyes as it resolves. Most patients are comfortable in public at around two weeks. Numbness or itching along the incision line is common as nerves recover.
A brow lift is surgery under anesthesia and carries risks of infection, bleeding, hematoma, and reaction to anesthesia. Temporary numbness or altered sensation across the forehead and scalp is common and usually resolves over weeks to months. Less commonly, sensation changes or hair thinning near the incision can be lasting. Asymmetry, an overly surprised or elevated brow position, and changes in hairline height are possible. Smoking significantly impairs healing and increases risk. Tell your surgeon if you smoke or take any medications, vitamins, or other drugs before surgery.
