Restylane® has proven to be a popular procedure, as patients are up and about immediately after treatment. The procedure is fast, requires little recovery time and produces immediate results, although it is important to remember that the results are not permanent. You will need to attend follow-up treatments every six months or so. Unlike other fillers, such as collagen, Restylane® contains no animal proteins, eliminating the possibility of an allergic reaction to the proteins.
Before the procedure, the area to be treated may be numbed. Restylane® is then injected with a fine-point needle.
Those who have had cold sores are at risk of a recurrence from the needle penetration. Individuals who form keloids or hypertrophic scarring should not use Restylane®. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or under the age of 18, should speak with their provider, as there may be risks associated with the treatment.
