If several of these sound like you, a consultation is the right next step. Your provider will confirm candidacy and walk through the plan that fits your goals.

Most patients take about 2 to 3 weeks off from work. You will be up and walking soon after surgery, and it typically takes about 6 weeks before returning to strenuous activity and heavy lifting. We provide a detailed recovery timeline personalized to your procedure.
If the stretch marks are on the skin being removed (typically the lower abdomen), they will be gone. Stretch marks above the belly button may be repositioned lower but will not be excised.
Yes. Many patients choose a “Mommy Makeover,” combining a tummy tuck with breast procedures like augmentation or a lift. At your consultation we discuss the safety and benefits of combining procedures to reach your goals.
While a tummy tuck is safe after having children, it is generally recommended to wait until you are finished having children, as future pregnancies can reverse the muscle tightening and skin-removal results.
Abdominoplasty reshapes the midsection by removing excess skin and fat and repairing the underlying muscle — addressing concerns that diet and exercise alone can’t. It removes stretched, sagging skin left behind after pregnancy or major weight loss for a smoother, flatter abdominal contour; repairs and tightens abdominal muscles that have separated (diastasis recti), restoring core strength and a firmer profile; combined with liposuction, removes pockets of fat around the lower abdomen and flanks that resist diet and exercise; and stretch marks below the navel are often removed along with excess skin.
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and repairs separated muscles — performed by our board-certified plastic surgeons under anesthesia for a flatter, firmer midsection.
Addresses the entire abdomen above and below the navel with muscle repair and skin removal — ideal after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
Focuses on the lower abdomen below the navel for patients with more limited skin laxity — typically a shorter, easier recovery.
Separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) are sutured back together to rebuild core strength and flatten the profile.
Liposuction of the flanks and waist is frequently combined to refine and sculpt the overall contour in a single procedure.
Plan for about two weeks off normal activity. Most patients ease back gradually, resume exercise around six weeks, and see results refine over several months.
A tummy tuck is major surgery performed under general anesthesia, and risks include infection, bleeding, reaction to anesthesia, and blood clots. Fluid collection beneath the skin (seroma) is the most common complication and may require drainage. Temporary or permanent changes in sensation across the lower abdomen are common. A tummy tuck leaves a permanent horizontal scar, positioned low so it is concealed by underwear or a swimsuit; scars fade but do not disappear. Smoking significantly increases the risk of poor healing. Your surgeon will review the risks specific to your health history at consultation.
You’re at a stable, healthy weight — a tummy tuck is a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss tool. You have excess abdominal skin or muscle laxity, often caused by significant weight changes or pregnancy. You’re a non-smoker, or willing to quit well in advance of surgery to ensure proper healing. And you have realistic expectations about what surgery can achieve.
