Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription neurotoxin injection FDA-approved since 2009 for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe expression lines — without changing the natural movement of your face.1 Like Botox®, Dysport works by blocking nerve signals to specific facial muscles, reducing the repeated contractions that cause lines to deepen over time. Untreated muscles continue to work normally, allowing you to freely show natural expressions in untreated areas.
At Cool Springs Plastic Surgery, Dysport treatments are performed exclusively by our licensed nurse injectors and nurse practitioners across all four of our Tennessee locations — Brentwood, Nashville, Franklin, and Mt. Juliet.
Repeated facial movements — raising the brows, squinting, smiling — create dynamic expression lines that deepen into permanent creases over time. Dysport is injected into specific facial muscles to temporarily reduce that activity. With as few as five injection points between and above the eyebrows, Dysport can visibly smooth frown lines while preserving full, natural movement in surrounding areas.
Horizontal lines across the forehead develop from years of raising the brows. Dysport relaxes the frontalis muscle to smooth these lines while maintaining natural brow movement and expression.
The vertical lines between the brows can create a stern or tired appearance even when the face is fully relaxed. This is Dysport’s primary FDA-approved cosmetic treatment area and one of the most commonly treated areas at CSPS.
Fine lines that radiate from the outer corners of the eyes develop from years of squinting and smiling. Dysport softens these lines while preserving the natural movement that makes expressions look genuine.
When the upper lip elevates too high while smiling, a small, precise amount of Dysport can relax the overactive muscle to reduce how much gum is visible — without affecting the natural shape of your smile.
Dysport can be used to relax the muscle just above the upper lip, causing it to subtly roll outward for a slightly fuller, more defined appearance. No filler is used. This is a popular option for patients who want subtle lip enhancement without adding volume.
Strategic placement in the glabella and lateral brow area can create a subtle lift, opening up the eye area and softening a heavy or hooded brow — without surgery or downtime.
Both Dysport and Botox® are FDA-approved neurotoxins that work by the same mechanism and address the same treatment areas. The key difference is dosing — the conversion ratio is 3 units of Dysport to 1 unit of Botox, which is reflected in the per-unit concentration.
Some patients find Dysport has a slightly faster onset and may spread more evenly across larger surface areas like the forehead, making it a preferred choice for certain treatment zones. Many patients try both over time and develop a personal preference.
During your appointment at CSPS, your provider will recommend the neurotoxin best suited to your anatomy and goals. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Dysport® is among the most commonly used botulinum toxin type A products for cosmetic facial treatment in the United States.1
Dysport addresses dynamic lines caused by muscle movement — but for patients who also notice volume loss, hollowing under the eyes, flattened cheeks, or deeper static lines, dermal fillers can complete the picture.
Many CSPS patients choose a combined approach: Dysport to smooth expression lines in the upper face, and fillers to restore structure and volume in the mid and lower face. This full facial balancing approach allows for a comprehensive, natural-looking result without surgery. Your CSPS provider will assess your facial anatomy and recommend a personalized plan at your appointment.
Dysport treatments at Cool Springs Plastic Surgery are performed by our team of licensed, experienced nurse injectors and nurse practitioners. Each provider brings both clinical precision and an artistic eye to every appointment, with personalized treatment plans based on your unique facial anatomy and goals.
The quality of your skin between treatments directly affects how your Dysport results look and how long they last. Our providers recommend pairing your neurotoxin treatments with a consistent medical-grade skincare routine to protect, hydrate, and support skin health year-round.
At CSPS, we carry provider-curated skincare lines including SkinMedica®, EltaMD®, Ourself, and Skin Benefit — selected by our team for visible, clinically supported results. Post-neurotoxin, our providers typically recommend a daily broad-spectrum SPF (UV exposure accelerates the breakdown of skin-smoothing results), a peptide or growth factor serum to support collagen and skin quality, and a gentle daily moisturizer to maintain hydration.

The most common side effects of Dysport treatment are temporary redness and possible bruising at the site of injection. Other possible side effects could be brow or eyelid drop.
Do not use Dysport if you are allergic to cow’s milk protein, have had an allergic reaction to any botulinum toxin product (including Botox®, Myobloc®, or Xeomin®), have a skin infection at the planned injection site, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

For up to four months, you could have the look that you love. Dysport® works to block the signal from the nerve to the muscles, resulting in a reduction of muscle activity and temporarily preventing contraction of the muscles that cause expression lines. You should not be treated with Dysport more frequently than every 90 days.
Treatment with Dysport can temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe expression lines in just 10 to 20 minutes, though treatment times can vary from person to person. Most patients notice initial relaxation within 2 to 3 days, with full results visible at 14 days. There is no clinical downtime — most patients return to normal activities immediately following their appointment.
Dysport has been shown to deliver temporary improvements in moderate to severe expression lines, even with repeat treatments. The effect of repeat treatment with Dysport may be comparable to your first use. The safety of Dysport has been studied in up to 12 repeated treatments. Clinical studies demonstrated continued efficacy with up to four repeated treatments.
