Pros & Cons: Learn About Lip Filler, Flips, Augs, & Lifts

Lip treatments are meant to create fullness in the lips and soften lip lines for a smooth, beautiful appearance. At Cool Springs Plastic Surgery, we know that the best results are the ones that those around you can’t even notice. An enhancement to your natural shape, rather than a complete alteration of your look. The fear of looking unnatural often deters people from lip treatments, but rest assured, our team wants you to look like you. With the filler specials available this month, it’s the best time to give your lips a lift!

There are several options when it comes to treating the lips, and it can be hard to understand the differences between each treatment. We’ve broken it down for you with two surgical and two non-surgical procedures.

SURGICAL
Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentations are performed in our state-of-the-art surgery center in Brentwood, TN by Dr. John Moore and Dr. Konrad Sarosiek. Lip augmentation gives patients fuller lips using one of a variety of surgical or minimally invasive techniques, specifically injecting fat into the lips.

Downtime: 3 – 4 weeks of bruising and swelling

Longevity: Results are considered permanent; however, your body can lose the fat just as it does naturally with any area.

Cost: $4,000 – $5,000

Pros:  As a more permanent procedure for lip fullness, you can save both money and time in the long run without having to do annual treatments.

Cons: Costs more upfront.

*Pro tip: This can be a great addition to any surgical procedure, allowing your lips the opportunity to recover with the rest of your body. Less downtime, less money!

Lip Lift

Lip lifts are also a surgical procedure performed by Dr. Sarosiek and Dr. Moore in our Brentwood surgery center! By removing some of the skin between the nose and border of the top lip, the distance between the lip and nose becomes shorter, thus making your lip appear fuller. With aging, our lips tend to turn inward and appear thinner. This procedure turns the lip out to bring back volume and a youthful appearance.

Downtime: 4-6 weeks of possible redness and bruising, but makeup can help conceal the suture line.

Longevity: Results of a lift lip should last for several years. As you age, the area will naturally begin to stretch and curl inward again.

Cost: $3,000 – $4,000

Pros:  Long-lasting volume and definition without injections.

Cons: More downtime upfront than a non-surgical procedure.

NON-SURGICAL
Lip Filler

As we age, our lip volume decreases, causing a more wrinkled texture. Additionally, many individuals just have naturally thin lips. Lip filler treatments are performed by our Nurse Injectors to add volume, hydration, and definition to the lips. These treatments are available at any of our locations in Brentwood, Franklin, Mount Juliet, and Music Row.

Downtime: 3-7 days of possible bruising and swelling

Longevity:  6 months to a year

Cost: $650 – $750

Pros:  Patients get a longer-lasting result with minimal downtime, although not permanent.

Cons: Lip filler results have a shorter longevity than other areas of filler, so patients may need to return for annual treatment.

Lip Flip

Often confused with lip filler, a lip flip with Botox, Dysport, or Daxxify, is an alternative for achieving the look of fuller lips. Neurotoxin relaxes the muscle around the mouth, resulting in the appearance of a “flip” and reducing lip lines or wrinkles. Lip flips can also be beneficial in correcting a gummy smile and/or enhancing the shape of the lip.

Downtime: No downtime but expect results in 7-14 days.

Longevity:  6-8 weeks

Cost: $150

Pros:  This is a cost-effective solution to a gummy smile and can enhance the shape of your lips.

Cons: Will not add volume to the lip and wears off quickly due to hyperactive lip muscles around the mouth.
